The atmosphere is still very festive, but now the crowds are lined up on the streets to watch the Province Carnaval Queen come by on an elaborate float, along with many others. There are also many bands with great carnaval music, and plenty of food.

To top off the evening, we went to a Samy y Sandra concert. We paid a small cover fee and caught the last hour of a great show. I really like their music and I have a couple of their CD’s, but I’ve never seen them perform live. I highly recommend it for anyone.

I can’t say that I understand all aspects of the festival, but then again, Panamanians are quick to point out that there are some celebrations in the states that they don’t quite understand. Water is a big part of carnaval whether you are in the capital, or the interior. It is the dry season, it’s hot, and water is typically in short demand this time of year.
