I was with the 59th sapper company and assigned to Aco 5/87 Jaguars. It seems we were pretty close to the action that day. I remember hearing the gunfire and thinking to myself "Who would be on the range today?" It was then I realized the sound was coming from the other direction. Kobbe a couple of weeks after the October 3 coup. The operation was my first combat experience and it was was intense, more so than my time in the desert (there were a lot more bullets that flew pass my head during that month than my desert time). The strange thing is I still fell in love with that country and went back several years later to spent some time there in the culture and with the people. The normal person just wouldn't understand.
